A.J. AND THE BULL
Prior to the 1972 Texas 500 at Texas World Speedway, A.J. Foyt had an encounter with this bull on pit road. And while it’s a pretty good bet that Foyt got the critter corralled, he didn’t have much luck in running down Buddy Baker for the race win.
Foyt finished second in the 1972 season finale after making a hard charge at Baker on the final lap. Richard Petty finished third, the only other driver on the lead lap. In doing so, Petty put the finishing touches on his fourth NASCAR championship. No other driver at the time had as many.
